Your hair deserves as much TLC as you can give it!

Yes, I have seen it all in my chair.. and a bit more. The overwhelming disappointment when I have to explain to a client that their hair is not in good enough condition to colour isn't my favourite part of this wonderful job.

The inevitable tears of frustration are hard to watch, and are frequently matched by my own frustrations because I know that this crushing disappointment can more often than not be totally avoidable. Yes, you heard that right, can be AVOIDABLE.

If you dread being told by your hairdresser, " I'm so, so sorry but I can't possibly colour your hair because if I do, it is likely to all snap off," then read on because I may be able to help you . Here are the 3 ways I advise you how to improve the condition of your hair.

Go back to basics!

Number 1.

Eat well, make sure you have the correct nutritional diet.. see the nutrition blog post here if you haven't already. Why? Because your hair's health starts from what is inside your body not what is applied from the outside.

Number 2.

Please, please, please PUT THE HAIR IRONS AWAY! These are SO bad for your hair. If you must, only use them on special occasions, definitely NOT everyday. You'll see a huge improvement when you give them up.

Number 3.

Do not be tempted to use shop bought products for your hair, by these I am referring to the popular brands in Boots or Tesco etc. You may have seen me bang on about this on my INSTAGRAM account, but I do it for a very good reason. If you have a build up of these cheap products on your hair, I CANNOT colour it. So try and give these up too if you can.

There is an answer..

Happily there are everyday products you can buy that will help your hair, so you don't need to be tied to any salon apron strings for your treatments.

To care for your hair, you really need to be applying products that are very high quality. Believe me when I tell you that it is a false economy to use poor quality products because in the long run they will damage your hair which will not only cost more to fix, but will also prevent you from achieving the hair of your dreams.

So.. without further delay here are the products I recommend. They are a little pricier that the brands in the supermarkets, but there is a reason for that! You do get what you pay for, and this is very true in the case of hair care products.

Olaplex - Numbers 4 (shampoo) and 5 (conditioner)

Use this as you would a normal shampoo and conditioner. These will usually last around 4 months (washing 3 times a week on medium length hair) as you only need to use a small amount.

Olaplex - Numbers 0 and 3 for repair.

Use these as occasional treatments once a week or every two weeks. You only need to use a small amount and they will last a few months, so are really good value for money in the long run.

I recently spoke to Hannah Radivan a Registered Nutritionist to ask her exactly HOW my clients could eat their way to healthier hair.. As well as quality hair products and looking after your hair on a daily basis, diet can change your hair from the inside.
